There is a view currently rising in popularity called anti-natalism. Anti-natalism is the belief that people should abstain from procreation because of the pain and suffering that all humans inevitably go through. And, from an atheistic worldview, it makes sense. There’s not really any point to living anyway, and if we’ll all go through suffering at some point in our lives, why bother bringing new humans into the world? Raphael Samuel, who tried to sue his parents for giving birth to him without his consent, said, “There’s no point to humanity. So many people are suffering. If humanity is extinct, Earth and animals would be happier. They’ll certainly be better off. Also, no human will then suffer. Human existence is totally pointless.” The way anti-natalists see it, the only thing that comes of human existence is suffering. We are born into a world wrought with evil, we suffer our entire lives, and then we die. For anti-natalists, there is no end goal for humanity. We simply live out our lives in suffering and then, once we’ve suffered our entire lives, we die, and our entire existence was all for nothing. The way they see it, there is no heaven, no hell, no Savior, and no point in living. Everything that gives us Christians a sense of reason and purpose has been taken out of the picture for anti-natalists. They have no hope, no reason to live. And, if God didn’t exist, there truly would be no point to our existence. But God does exist. Because of Him, there’s so much more to this life than just suffering. We have an end goal, a purpose. We will suffer in this life, but there will be an end to the suffering. Through Christ, our suffering is not in vain. Through Christ, we have the promise of eternal life. Christ gives us a hope and peace like no other. The world is bleak and hopeless without Him, but through Christ, we have a purpose in this life, a reason for our suffering. With His help, we can endure it, and one day enter eternal life.

Genesis 1:28 says, “And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Our life here on earth is not only suffering. If we place our trust in Christ, the suffering will be endurable, and we will be able to see blessings that God has given us. He has provided us with family, friends, food clothes, homes to live in, and so much more. Because of Christ, we will one day enter heaven, where there will be no more suffering or sin. We will have to endure some suffering, but it will seem small and insignificant compared to the eternal glory that awaits us in heaven.
